How to make Grilled Chicken Drumsticks at home

Honestly, I had never thought that one day, I might be able to grill my own homemade Grilled Chicken Drumsticks which I frequently spill saliva while watching roadside hawkers performing their stunts with grilling chicken drumsticks.

 

I haven’t got a book on grilling drumsticks but I managed to search in the Internet for the recipes and figured out that I could grill them in the oven since the BBQ tools are attached in it.

 

Surprisingly, grilling chicken drumsticks is as easy as a pie if you could grab the right timing to know whether your chickens are cooked or half cooked.

I had a few hiccups along the way when I tried to grill pork chops because pork meats took a longer time than I expected to grill the meats without any blood trapped inside.

Same goes with the chicken drumsticks. Always allow the chicken drumsticks to defrost before you marinate them.

 

Marinating the spice paste with the chicken drumsticks would be perfect if you could prepare the marinating process overnight. Which means, you get ready the spice paste, marinate the cleaned chicken drumsticks and cover them , chill in the fridge until the next day.

This allow the drumsticks to absorb all the spice flavor, penetrate into the chicken flesh, makes a perfect Grilled Chicken Drumsticks with superb essence.

 

This spice is actually not spicy at all. I had removed the seeds from the red chilli, so your children would be able to accept the mild spice chicken. Otherwise, you could replace the red chilli with chilli flakes that I got from Domino Pizza. They aren’t spicy at all!

I am sure that your children would love this chicken drumsticks and forget about KFC for a long time!

 

 

 

Grilled Chicken Drumsticks

Ingredients:

  • 2 cloves garlic-chopped
  • 1 stick lemon grass-chopped
  • 2 shallots-chopped
  • 1 small red chilli-remove seeds, chopped
  • 1  tsp chopped frresh coriander
  • 1 tbsp fish sauce
  • 8 pcs of chicken drumsticks-remove the fats and skins
  • Some lettuce leaves for decoration
  • Chilli sauce for dipping purpose

 

 

Method of making:

  • You can either use a mortar and pestle or a Food Processor to blend the garlic, lemon grass, shallots, chilli and coriander into a fine paste.
  • Transfer the spice paste from the blender into a big bowl. Then mix it with the fish sauce into a smooth paste.
  • Add in the cleaned drumsticks, coat them well with the spice paste.
  • Cover the bowl, allow to drumsticks to marinate into the paste for an hour or overnight if you have time.
  • Now, prepare the grill. You can use an open air grill or oven grill.
  • Place the marinated chicken drumsticks over the grill.
  • Bake or cook for 15 minutes, turn over to the uncook sides until the drumsticks turned crisp, brownish .
  • Use a fork to poke into the drumsticks to ensure that the meat is cooked, no more blood trapped inside.
  • You can also use the baking mmethod by wrapping up the drumsticks into the foil, bake for 30min.
  • Serve hot with lettuce and chilli sauce for dipping purpose.

 

Serves 6 person, a wonderful treat for parties and weekends dinner.
