Lord Maha Vishnu forms part of the trinity of Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara. He is the second in the triumverate and is the  preserver, giver and the provider for the world. He  takes care of all the requirements of  all the living being in the world. Lord Maha Vishnu is said to lie in the casual ocean or the Karanodak. He resides in the Ksheersagar.

 

All people in Hinduism follow Lord Maha Vishnu, but those who particularly worship the Lord or any of his avatars as their ishta devata are known as Vaishnavaites and the sub sect is called as Vaishnavism. There are one thousand names of Lord Maha Vishnu and the sloka which is chanted by devotees along with various mantras and prayers is the Vishnusahasranamam.

 

He has the eyes like the  Lotus and has a thundering voice. He is pleasing, attractive, can be a prayed as a Lord, God or can be treated as a friend  and has a calm composure and  is blue in color Neelaroopa. He is all pervading and is the restorer of the moral order or dharma.

 

He has taken different incarnations and as the Dasha avatara to reestablish dharma or righteousness during the many stages and phases of evolution. Lord Maha Vishnu’s consort is Sri Maha Lakshmi who is worshiped by one and all especially in the Hindu religion. He took the form of a tortoise to retrieve the amritha from the cosmic flood and is the victor of infinity ever victorious.

 

His vahana is the Garuda Bhagwan a mythical Eagle who is famous in Garuda puran. He can be found anywhere,  where you see a temple where Lord Mahavishnu is the presiding deity. Lord Vishnu carries the Shanka or the conch, the Chakra or the discuss, the Gadha or the mace and the Padma or the Lotus in his four hands. In his Sheshavatara roopa he is seen lying on the thousand headed Serpent God Vaasuki in a sleeping posture and lost in thought and one can also see the Goddess Maha Lakshmi with him.

 

Generally she is there where the Lord is as she resides in His heart. The serpent keeps lifts it many hoods in an expanded way  and keeps it as a shade for the Lord. Sri Maha Vishnu’s iconography is famous so are his images well sculpted and so are the paintings about the Lord depicting and explaining different events which took place in  a story form in many temples which looks beautiful.

 

He represents the  Supreme reality. Vishnu purana is one the ancient puranas which relates to this Lord. Chanting of the Maha Vishnu Mantra and other mantras in praise of the Lord and following the rituals, performing pooja, dhyanam and mangala aarti for the Lord on a regular basis rids oneself of impurities  of the mind, partaking the prescribed food during the  cleans the body of its toxins and purifies the soul.
