@support

I am asking this after I have recently posted an article in the blog and checked the same just out of curiosity on plagium. When I checked the same in the search the first version of the software my same article is showing as repeated with some percentages in wikipedia.

I am surprised how can that be as I was the one who typed the whole article out my own knowledge using my mind. How can something similar to me exist on the net? This is ridiculous. I was a sportsman hence thought of writing an article on the topic and wrote and published the same. But I do not know I just wanted to see what this checker will do and this is what it is doing.

This is rubbish. Now even if something is properly verified by this software I will not believe this as it is showing something which a individual does out his creativity as available on the net. How can it tell that? Just because someone has used some similar words in the net does it not mean that the other person cannot do so. If these things happen in this software how am I supposed to prove my creativity?

Here it is not a question of money. It is something the system which checks is showing as someone else has typed a article and so I am not supposed to write on this subject. This is wrong. I have lost trust in these kind of software after my experience now. How can my words be matched by percentages with someone else work. This is nothing but cheating.

I want @support to know about this clearly and hence I am writing this article. I want other members also to be aware as to what this software is doing. It can use your creativity and content and tell something similar which you never know is being used you you from the net. Which is utter falsehood. All the authors please read this experience of mine and just check this on your own with you articles and see what happens.

How can something I created be told exists on the net. Each person has his own style of writing and choice of words and how can that match word by word or by percentages? This is intellectual fraud being committed by these software and the others of its kinds by damaging the name of authors like me and you. Be careful of this.

It’s not a question of trusting the software that checks for plagiarism. It’s just a fact that we can’t trust other human beings not to plagiarize our content. If there were no dishonest people stealing the hard work of other people, the computer program would have not had to be written to catch those defrauders. As the Internet is vast and it is very difficult to find these thieves using your own two eyeballs, then we must rely on technological assistance. We do not rely solely on the automated checker. No wise person would ever totally depend on a computer program. Because we all know a computer program does not always “properly verify”. The people who own the site and/or writers who own the content are humans and they can perform additional verification, if need be. It’s a shame that people can’t be trusted, not the software. It’s a shame that the software had to be invented.

If you wrote about a passage in the Bible and quoted the passage, your item would be flagged for plagairism.  That is the problem with these idiotic checkers.   You would post something like;

“In the Bible, Genesis 1 verse 29, says; (and you would quote it) “and then be charged with plagiarism by the mods here.

I have written factual items, using facts.  Exact facts, to prove what I’m writing is truthful.  And because I use the Facts; I’m flagged!

March 26, 2017 at 8:45 am

@kaylar, the one who flagged you was an idiot or maybe satanic member he disliked God’s words. About that issue that seems ridiculous.How come you plagiarized those contents yours. That plagium has been programmed wrongly forgetting that there are so many words all humans need to use. If I write an article entitled Why are you sad? I am so sure these words will be charged as plagiarized without thinking these words are used daily and there are words that need to be used as far as the contents usages are concerned. What to do is program in that plagium, the possible style of the writer, the beginning and ending of the composition and the all in all similarities texts by texts / word for word. A writer may surely be charged with plagiarism if the words used are the same with others, of course, words could be repeated but according to use and writer’s opinion.

If that is the case, we will all be charged with plagiarism here here considering the words in the dictionary are the dame words used worldwide.This is so weird result you are charged by your own writings, super,LOL.

I think for people who spam bible verses or other religious stuff. Plagium and other software can quickly find that out. Also the amount of time it takes for it to find makes you wonder how effective they can be. I have found copyscape and plagium to be a good source for plenty of times. They can find out if anyone stolen your work or not. I would say these days many people want to make quick money and they get caught into this spiral of copying. So yes these type of tools can be effective to remove such users.

Here we are discussing about software which check and not about the humans who cheat that is a totally different topic.

One more thing is these checkers are giving different rates like plain search, deep search etc. If these software want to exist in the market they have to do a good job. If they cannot properly  do the job or there are defects in their systems they should plug the loopholes as many people are relying on these kind of software.

These people are supposed to be expert checkers and are not supposed to perform shoddy work for their customers like me and other authors  or even sites who rely on them. Something similarly written by some other person at a different time which the author will not be aware cannot be compared by the software and told that the authors article already exists on the net. This is sham by these checker companies.

Imagine if we use a calculator and the calculator gives a total which goes wrong once or twice  out of ten times will anyone believe calculators? I had such a calculator and as it was a bit old and doing these mistakes I just threw it in the dustbin and went for a knew one so is the same with credit card companies or banks.

You cannot damage others name and earn money doing a shabby work. Perfect the checker system and then sell the same in the market. If these checker companies cannot do the same it is better the close shop or wind up. Rather than damage peoples reputation, even if it is once or twice out of ten times. The sooner they correct themselves the better it is. I will use this software, but sorry to say will never believe these sort of checker software. Unless they buck up. They damage authors life maybe once or twice out of ten times and that is enough to damage the authors future and it is not right.

If I write;  Columbus landed on Jamaica in 1494… a plagiarism checker would ‘flag’ that because it is written everywhere.  It is true.

If I write that “Today, at the National Stadium, there is going to be a major conference of the People’s National Party,”   a plagiarism checker will flag that because it is an announcement in all the newspapers in Jamaica.

To avoid that, I must avoid writing facts.

@kaylar

Feel sad about hearing this. As writers we should be able to write on different topics of interest on which we can share information. This also increases the scope of the articles which can be written by a writer. A writer writes based on experiences on life which may be from facts too. @support should look into this matters as to what checkers are doing and address this issue. As a solution is needed for these issues. Restrictions like these by these checkers are not good thing for the writing sites too. As they too lose content which writers can contribute.

This is why this site is lowly rated.  There is very little to read.  You can NOT post about a political situation in Your country which would be of educational benefit as you would be calling the names of real people, describing real incidents, which would likely be mentioned in newspapers and texts.

I will cease from posting anything of real value.

@kaylar

Hope if things are happening like this admin will surely look into it because, why should this site which generates good content be affected by this. I would like more business to come to the site too. As we need a strong site which has to increase its business too. It is beneficial to the site and the authors if current issues are discussed.

If one attempts to write a good article, something that can be quoted they must use facts.  To use facts would open the door to plagiarism.   For example; imagine that you read;

“It was found that exposure to the Sun for at least fifteen minutes a day boosts the immune system”, in a medical journal.

You write; “According to the latest medical reports, exposure to the sun for at least fifteen minutes a day boosts the immune system”

This site would slap that at plagairism.

If you wrote; “You should be in the sun each day for good health.”   that would not be plagairism but it would be of low quality.   Firstly, who says so?  How long?   You get the point?  Admin doesn’t.

March 27, 2017 at 4:42 pm

I do see your point Krishna. But based on the tests taken. I think sites like copyscape can accurately find out the plagiarism. Though I do understand your point that not all the tools are accurate. To which I agree.  But some of the expensive tools like copyscape definitely are more accurate and they find out many such content through their crawlers. I have seen the results happening and compared through that tool. In fact many times I used it to report the Hubpages users who used to copy the hubs. So tools can make mistakes but not every tool is flawed one. Especially one that is expensive to even use.

March 27, 2017 at 4:52 pm

@mahesh

Agree with you. What I am telling is stop using or promoting the checkers which do not do a good job as what is there in the blog page we submit is the one which we use. So promote someone who does a good job and does not cause harm to sites or their authors. All this even after charging money. What it means is people who are not specialists and simply authors who are end users are being taken for a ride by the checkers who do a shabby work. Thanks for the inputs.

March 27, 2017 at 5:33 pm

I agree the half baked tools have done the damage.I remember squidoo used some of such service. And it ended up having more issues with members. The issue was with their own content on many points. But they didn’t acknowledged. This made many people worry about such tools. That’s what needs to be taken care of if people are considering using such tools. I’d prefer copyscape but free version does not allow us much options.

@mahesh

Thanks for the useful information and feedback which you are providing. What this shows is that if one does not provide the right quality of checkers then it is a loss for the site, the authors and the variety of content which can be blogged. As more variety of content helps sites generate more hits which increase its revenue and that in turn helps also authors who write for those sites.

Quality checkers are a must if this has to be achieved as if these technical things are not foolproof then it is a loss for one and all who are associated with the process. It is better best quality of checkers are used which allow no scope for error. It this happens it will definitely benefit the site using such a system a lot. Appreciate your adding the inputs.
