Seeing the rise of steven smith is mind boggling. He is today one of the best batsmans in the world alongside Joe Root and Virat Kohli. But if you see where he started, nobody would have imagined the place he now occupies. If you see Virat and Root, both were considered as the future’s best batsman and skipper when they were in teens. The pundits had claimed that these two batsman would go on to become world’s best and that certainly happened. But no pundit ever said that Steven Smith would go on to become one of the world’s best and the Australian Captain. When he made his debut for australia, he was in the team mainly for his bowling and his batting was equivalent of a tail ender. He failed to make a mark as a spinner and batting was a disaster. And considering how Australian’s bench and competition is so strong, steven smith was immediately dropped from the team. He went back and literally transformed himself from a spinner to a specialist batsman. Clearly taking that kind of decision at such a crucial point of his career was a turning point but also a risky one. But it clearly paid dividends, he started performing exceedingly well in domestic tournaments and soon was drafted into the team. Rest as we say is history. From then on, he became a lynchpin of the team more often bailing the team out just like our own virat used to do. Michael Clarke being the captain of the team when smith debuted, slowly lost his status of the number 1 batsman of Australian team to smith. Does not matter which format it was, smith clearly ruled the roost. With a unconventional batting stance that is considered a risky one, he ruled over bowlers with utmost ease. I hate to say this, it was steven smith who took the game away from us in the Semi Final of World Cup. Who knows, if he was not there indian team would have as well bundled them out. Despite warner’s early dismissal and slowing down of run rate thereafter, smith counter attacked and took on our bowlers who were until then in a red hot form. The counter attack literally finished our hopes. After the world cup, clarke stepped down and smith who was about 2 years ago not even considered in team’s bench was appointed as the Captain of Australian team. Just remarkable the way he has scaled heights.Surely a inspiration for any upcoming cricketer.
Well this applies to me first. In this fast paced world where competition is brutal, passion turned vengeance, rivals turn into arch-rivals, committments easily overturned, trust betrayed on a drop of a coin, disappointment and heartbreaks seems to have become a norm in this world these days. Its true that everyone wants to suceed in the life and that too on a large scale. That’s great. Even i want to.But suceeding by betraying trust and showing double standard is something i never wish of. We just cannot ditch the ethics of our life for a mere success for life.Unfortunately that seems to have become easy thing in the world right now. Sometimes, even the relatives whom you trusted so much also give you the same bitter pill. And that’s something more painful, because if a stranger whom you met recently betrays you, you can just throw that guy away from your life like removing dust from the house. But when your own relative and sometimes loved ones do the same thing to you, its something that you cannot digest. There are many things that is going negative in this world. But thinking and worrying about it is doing no good to you and your loved ones who stand by you. That’s why, does not matter what befalls on you, a disaster, a heartbreak, a betrayal. Whatever happens in your life, you should never lose your happiness from your life. Crying over a spilt milk is of no avail. In fact remaining sad and thinking about it will make life seem a place of hell. So its important that we throw all the negative things from our life and think on a positive side, a side of sunshine. Think about the memories that made us happy. Just doing this will help you to a great deal as not only you can focus on your work but also keep your loved ones happy. After all no loved ones will remain happy if you are not happy. Sometimes, if not for us, just for the sake of them one needs to keeping smiling and remain jovial.
My mother and siser recently bought a money plant. No no, i don’t think notes will grow in that tree. If that could have happened, then no money plant would have existed in india now. I was never inclined towards plants, garden although my sister and mother are quite fond of it. If left to me, i would have never even given a thought to buy a one. It was only due to mom’s push that we bought it. But after keeping that plant in the house. I have slowly warmed up to idea of gardening in the house. Just seeing the plant gives you a soothing feeling. Does not matter what sorrow you are facing in the world, just looking at the plant makes one feel happy. Does not matter, how much your heart has been wounded with betrayals, seeing the plant heals the wounds. According to me, after buying the plant and experiencing it, i feel each one of us should set up a garden in their house and experience it themselves. We always say how animals can be best friends with you. We can add garden to that list. Does not matter who stands with you or not, the garden always stands by you in the time of happiness and sorrow. Today plants and trees play a huge role in correcting the psychology of the patient. It is also included as part of the therapy to cure patient who are depressed. This shows much garden can be important in our lives. Even to people who are not depressed, seeing this plant makes you strive harder and look positively to every single thing in the world, even though in reality it is impossible and negative. This is the one side of the benefit. The other side is its contribution to the environment, to the surrounding. We can call it small, but invaluable for sure. As we say every droplet makes an ocean. Just like that every plant will help the planet earth in combatting the global warming that is threatening planet’s existence in near future
Yes, does not matter dhoni performs in champions trophy or not. He should be in the playing eleven in the 2019 world cup. Just having him purely as player can boost the whole team to perform. Only as player, he has done the most impossible things, bailed the team out of precarious so many times, finished the matches when the team need him badly and shifted his gear at a right time in every innings he played. And add to that, the leadership skills he brings to the team is invaluable. He is the best captain india has ever produced. I can even go on to say, arguably he is best captain world has ever seen. Virat kohli may be the captain of this team, but he needs the services of MS badly in the crunch situations. As we saw the matches with New Zealand and England, whenever the finishing over nears, virat kohli almost crumbles and that’s just when dhoni takes over and leads the team. The coolness and his innovative thinking is a huge boon to this young indian team. And last but not the least, the experience he brings to the team is as worth as diamond. There is no one in the team as experienced as MS. He has seen everything from lows to highs and exactly how to and what do in different types of situations. Regarding the batting, he may be the old finisher, but he is still the backbone of this indian team middle order. Whole middle and lower order will revolve around him. Whatever role he is going to play, a anchor or a swashbuckler its a win win situation for indian team. If Dhoni leaves this indian team, i feel it will be quite tough for this indian team to win the World Cup. At the end of the day players of calibre like dhoni are born once in a century and they should be utitlized to full potential.
Yes, if anybody needs a role model to emulate in their sports career, it has to be phelps. There are many athletes who spend their whole lifetime trying and trying to get a medal, and when they finally get it does not matter which color it is. They leave the scene happily and never return again. And even those who won gold medals never emulate the performance they achieved four years ago and those who did are a rare breed and on top of that breeds is Michael Phelps. Clearly this guy is a shark in pool as well as in winning medals. He just takes out gold medals as if he is going to a store and buying a chocolate bar. For example in beijing olympics, he won eight gold medals which about 100 + nations failed to do it. With each medal he won, the hunger never got satiated. In fact he got more aggressive to win the next one and that’s just what every athlete should look. In london olympics, he again came back and won a handful of gold medals and couple of other medals. This showed how his hunger and capability never got decreased over the period. The utter dominance he used to exhibit was astonishing. There was no one who could come near him. It was like the swimmers were competing for second and third position when he was on pool. After london olympics, this guy retired and was done with swimming. After two years, just before the rio olympics he decided to come back. And what a comeback it was. There was absolutely no rust. He came, saw and conquered it. His rival swimmers who sweated it out all 4 years before the olympics were left spectators to his amazing display of grit, gumption, hunger and capability in the pool.
I think that this is what every athlete should try to emulate. It is not capability of phelps we are talking about. It is his sheer insatiable hunger, confidence, grit, gumption that makes him a true champion and par above than others. We indians are happy if one gets a medal in one olympic and completes falters on the another olympics. The athletes who won a gold medal can be called a achiever, but if one needs to be called a champion, he or she should win a medal in suceeding olympics without fail like phelps.
I won’t say fully. But clearly virat does not look the same batsman he used to be when he was not a captain. He was one batsman who could take on any bowler of any stature on any wicket and more importantly on any situation. We hail Sachin for creating so many records, most runs, most centuries. But how many times we have seen him take on the best bowlers on a difficult situation, or how many he has taken the team over the line even when situation is dire and impossible. Can not say never, but he has done it only few times compared to Virat kohli who has time and again proved he is world’s best batsman. But clearly since he took over captaincy, there has been slight dip of form and dominance he used wield earlier. When he was only the test captain, he was able to manage it pretty well, but since taking over the indian team as the full time leader. There has been some problems in his batting form. The ease, dominance, confidence and impeccable technique has taken some beating. There is no doubt that as a captain, you have the additional responsibility of getting the best out of team and making decisions. But one should make sure that it does not affect one’s batting. And that’s just what Dhoni managed to do it so successfully over the years. Despite handling captaincy and pressure, he never got buckled down. In fact captaincy made him more reliable batsman than ever. He was more a swashbuckler before he took over the captaincy, he was someone who never merits a ball and tries to hit each one of them out of stadium. Many times that led to his downfall, but after becoming captain he changed his approach to the batting, becoming more patient and at the same time be explosive. Fortunately virat just does not change his approach or technique like dhoni did. He is World’s best batsman and he needs to just do what he has been doing before he was a captain. Its important for him and team to not to get pressurized by captaincy and play his natural game
Revisiting olympics for indians has never been so difficult. It was olympics where india, despite carrying a contingent bigger size than in previous olympiad performed dismally. 1.25 Billion population had great expectations over the athletes. So much so all of us expected india to exceed the medal tally they got in London Olympic and also fetch a elusive a gold medal. But it turned how wrong was our expectation over the athletes. Excepting the two girls who managed to save us blushes of returning empty handed. All performed so bad that one wonders how they even managed to qualify for these olympics. Many stalwarts who previously won medal in olympics failed miserably. The reason, it can be a combination of factors.
One. Indians lacked hunger to win a medal. Just for the sake of representing india, they came, represented and went back home. There was no grit, gumption to win a medal.
Two. Indian athletes remain the same players they were in previous olympics. Neither they improved or tried to innovate their strategies. Whereas the foreign players even coming from small countries innovated their techniques and improved their style of play to outwit us.
We should be really ashamed that many individual players performed better than us indians combined. For example seeing Phelps medals tally, it reminds how he can be called Phelps Republic. Many countries including india failed to match the tally he got. It showed how a individual won so many medals and how we as country failed to win a single gold medal.
Its time we wake up from the slumber and no longer focus and invest only on stalwarts who brought us glory. We need to plan, invest and focus on young children to get them step on the podium in another 8 to 12 years from now. India needs long term planning to achieve what it needs. Unless we do that, there is no way india could win a gold medal or increase its medals tally.
Yes. We have been all, of late singing praises for the Indian Test team for defeating all test teams and reigning in as World No 1. But one also needs to understand that all this season, we have been largely playing at home. Since Dhoni’s era, we have been literally unbeatable at home defeating even the biggest team: Australia 4-0. But this can largely attributed to the pitches they have been playing. No disrespect to the wins. There is no doubt that even playing on that surface needs skill and capability to outwit the team. But at the same time, home team gets the advantage of knowing the cons and pros of the pitch, which the opposite does not know. And our players very well know how to play and which bowlers to utilize. The real test will come when India goes abroad and plays in alien conditions. How the team adapts and outplays the home team shows the real capability of this team. Largely indians have been poor winning in abroad. Especially against strong teams like Australia, the indians have meekly surrendered and that’s just something indians cannot afford to repeat if it really wants to justify its World No 1 Ranking. According to me, i would only agree with India’s No 1 ranking only if it goes abroad and wins there convincingly. No 1 ranking is just not a number, its the power, invincibility that shows up in that number. And that’s something Australia in recent times and West Indies in older times have shown. Australia during its strong times, they were just invincible. Does not matter which country they played, which team they played against, they thrashed them. Same with west Indian who were more dominant than the australians. Home pitches, abroad pitches never mattered to them. From the whistle go, they destructed every single team.
Since my childhood, i have been heavy eater. Although i eat a lot weight has never been a issue when i was young. Does not matter how much i used to eat, i remained thin. Probably one reason could be is that i used to be really active those day, running, jumping around. Just as i neared 18 years, i started putting on weight slowly. Although my body fram remain thin, there was a considerable increase in belly. This really started to worry me. I was neither exercising, neither eating less, nor i was active like i used to be when i was in childhood. One of reason i would like to attribute is because of web developing profession i took on. The profession demands a one to sit hours on end. After all its a job requirement, you could not stay on to profession if you don’t do that. So then i decided, i need to start exercising to really reduce my weight and build up my body. I searched down the exercises and got a few from my parents. Knowing and searching exercises may be an easy task, but doing though definitely is tougher than i thought. But with passing of days, everything started becoming easier. Despite exercising for over a month, my body structure improved but belly size remained the same. Then i found out that, i have not stopped being a heavy eater. That was the reason why despite working out hard, there has no been notable improvement in weight loss. Immediately i decided to shun away snacks and limit the meals i have. Exercise seemed easy but limiting food, i never thought would be so difficult. We eat three times a day. I eat less in the first meal of the day and then pounce on other two. So basically no change. What i do, when i see food on plate i forget every single thing including weight loss. Until now i have been unsuccessful in limiting my food.
Web developing is sure a brain draining work. I have to be fully involved in the work and fully detached from the world. I have to go with the process unlocking problems and constructing new modules. Unless one is not involved and fully focussed in that job, one just cannot even write a single algorithm that will work. And one more thing here is that, you need utmost patience. Does not matter how many times your algorithm fails to deliver, we have to remain patient and calm to chart out another option. Now doing such things really drains the brain and body strength out. There are times one loses the focus and involvement in the work causing problems in developing. To rejuvenate myself, i drink tea three to four times a day. Yes it works to a great extent. Even when one loses focus and the work gets boring, drinking tea reboots you and whole system. Although sometimes over drinking of tea causes loss of sleep in the night, but for a larger cause, some things can be sacrificed. Drinking four cups of tea makes me lose sleep in the night, so i try to make sure that i limit to 2 cups per day and if i badly need it, i will add one more cup. And you know what, tea makes my work interesting and more engaging. For example if i get into some problem in my developing, drinking tea has helped me several times to rethink the issue and find out a better solution. And most of the times it has helped to finish developing a module faster than i was expected to do.At the end, one thing is for sure without tea, i’m sure developing would have been more tougher task had it not been for drinking tea.So my advice to all web developers out there to develop habit of tea or coffee to reboot yourself during lazy or boring period. It really works.
