Another Miserable Black Out in Jamaica

The Jamaica Public (dis) Service (JPS) finally reported that over twenty thousand customers were without electricity Kingston and St Andrew and St Catherine.

The excuse was that the black out was a result of the windy conditions associated with the cold front currently affecting the island.   (You understand why living in Jamaica it is impossible to believe in Global Warming, right?)

The manager of the Jamaican Public (dis) Service gave the excuse that restoration work began and continues and sometime in my life time I’ll know what is going on when more information is available, (or someone comes up with a good excuse).

Of course this manager wouldn’t give anything resembling an estimated time for full restoration, but claimed that teams were and are currently working to have the problem resolved.

“They’re continuing to work as quickly as they can and as safely as they can, due to the current weather conditions.”   She said, glibly.

Last night, at 6 pm or so, there was no electricity.  The light finally returned like at 9 a.m.   This is because of the sloppy work and crummy conditions that Jamaicans have to put up with from their one and only power company.

JPS  in a news release late Monday said that its teams would work up to midnight to restore supply to customers affected by outages and have service resumed by 7:00 am today.

It further indicated that, while it was making every effort to restore supply to as many customers as possible last night, the persisting windy conditions were making restoration difficult and risky for the JPS crews.

“The abnormal weather conditions have wreaked havoc on the power system, causing trees and heavy branches to fall on lines, resulting in blown transformers, blown fuses and other faults on the system,” the release said.
