8 Ways To Control Hot Flashes

Hot flashes are that quick feeling of flushing and, or heat and sweating. It is caused by changes in circulation and ones may occur when the blood vessels near the skin’s surface begin to dilate when one needs to cool off. This may also cause a rapid heart beat or chills in some women. More than two thirds of all American women have some symptoms of hot flashes. Hot flashes, or menopause, usually come about in a woman’s late 40’s but occasionally it can begin a little earlier. These can really bother some women and be hardly noticed by others. Sometimes women will experience hot flashes during pregnancy due to hormonal changes during this time.

Here are 8 ways to help with menopausal hot flashes:

1. Swimming or walking three or more times a week can help to nurture the hypothalamus, produce an increased amount of endorphins and even limit the amount of LH and FSH hormones going through the body.

2. Networking with friends can help to identify some new ways that may be of help to relieve hot flashes. Everyone has different ones that seem to work well for them.

3. Wearing layers can help. If you get over heated you can take off a sweater or jacket. Light cotton in layers can help with sweating also.

4. A daily glass of water with a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in it can help to reduce symptoms.

5. Tobacco products as well as alcohol can cause hot flashes to come on. Also acidic foods or hot and spicy foods should be avoided.

6. Saunas or the hot tub can be a problem for some people and bring on hot flashes.

7. Make sure that clothing fits right. Tight and uncomfortable clothing can cause a hot flash to come on.

8. Try slow and deep breathing to help at the onset of a hot flash. Practice 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes at night.
