Everyone wants to live 100 years old and above.

Although a small percentage of old folks are able to live healthily after reaching their 100th birthday, there are still chances for you to live a longer life with some changes.

According to the news, there were 135,000 centenarians in the whole world, in the year of 1998.

 

According to the researchers calculation, by the year of 2050, there will be approximately 2.2 million of centenarians!

 

Japan had been well known of longevity of centenarians who had lived beyond age 100 years old, yet they are healthy and active instead of bedridden.

 

So, what are the secrets that the old centenarians are able to outlived their own aging children and lived longer than expected?

 

Up todate, there is no scientific proof that medication could aid individual to live longer but better lifestyle and healthy eating habits are few of the secrets that these centenarians had revealed to the press.

 

 

5 Tips to live longer life

#1- Quit Smoking

 

Veteran and second hand smokers should quit smoking once and for all.

 

Smoking is known to had caused lung cancer, throat cancer, larynx damage, nose cancer, mouth cancer and many more diseases.

 

It has been proven by doctors and real smokers that smoking certainly shorten the life span of a person’s life and health spontaneously.

 

Indeed, it is difficult for a smoker to quit immediately because it takes a lot of time, effort and family support to help him to stop thinking about smoking when the craving comes in.

 

Hence, start seeking for rehab centre for help or ask for family members to help you out in quitting smoking for you to live longer.

 

If your family cares for you, they will support you emotionally and phsically without any obligation.

 

 

#2-Exercise

 

Majority people at middle age and above are reluactant to exercise daily due to hbitual sedentary lifestyle.

 

Exercise should be done regularly, at least twice a week or more.

 

Each exercise duration should be 20min to 30min.

 

Choose suitable exercise method depending on individual ability, age and interest.

 

Walking, brisk walking, jogging, running, swimming or aerobic dance are well sought exercise where one does not have to fork out money at the gym.

 

For older folks, Tai-qi, meditation and yoga are perfect light and easy exercise to maintain great stamina and movements.

 

A brisk walk to the park or work, sending grandchild to the nearby school is sufficient for a person to keep himself trim, get rid off excess calories and burn off fats.

 

In addition, exercise also helps a person to improve muscle tone, knee caps to prevent arthristis and osteoporises as one grows older.

 

Bone loss is one of the common problem among the older folks, especially when experience accidental fall that hurts the bones.

 

Exercise also helps to improve the blood flow to your heart, helping your heart to function properly and efficiently.

 

 

#3- Balance Diet

 

As one grows older, appetite changes, so does the daily diet.

It is wise to change a high carbohydrate diet to a balanced diet in order to keep your body healthy and good shape.

 

Cut down on fats in poultry and meats, cut down on sugar and sodium, consume more vegetables , fruits and fibres, cut down on caffiene beverages, turn to blended fruit juice or vegetable juices instead.

 

A healthy diet helps you to prevent against contracting cardiocascualr dieases, assorted cancers, diabetes, stroke and hypertension.

 

Adapting a good diet maintains a person’s body resistence against falling sick easily.

 

 

#4- Quit alcohol

 

Moderate alcohol intake is acceptable for middle age people but as one grows older, it is wise to quit consuming alcohol for health purpose.

 

Chinese people believed that Chinese wine made from rice wine helps to warm up internal system which has low percentage of alcohol.

 

Wine, beer, spirits are high in alcohol percentage, that may damage your health especially lung, kidney  and stomach.

 

In addition, alcohol does not contain any nutrients, fiber or calories at all.

 

If you consume alcohol for a long period of time, it will be difficult to quit and increases your weight gain.

 

 

#5-Keep active

 

When you grow older, especially after retired from a full time job, you will gradually turn into a couch potato which is not an ideal way to waste your life.

 

In order to live longer, you have to keep yourself active when various activities to keep your body moving.

 

Notice that old folks are prone to Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson disease, Dementia or Stroke?

 

That is because prolong period of watching tv, napping and eating daily, reduces the body metabolic rate and stamina.

 

Hence, staying mentally active at old age can help to prevent you from contracting mental problems as I had mentioned above.

 

Initiate some mental stimulation activities such as playing Mahjong, challenging yourself with crossword puzzles, taking up new hobbies, gardening, playing cards or jigsaw puzzles, all these activities are exercise for the mind.

To be honest, we had been living in the modern era, too much flexible access transportation, techonology advancement and fast food, had made us live too luxury.

 

In order to live longer, we have to change of daily lifestyle, eating habits and adapt ourselves with activities to keep ourselves active.

 

Try walking to short distance places such as the park, grocery shops or coffeeshop that you could reach in 10min or so.

 

Daily brisk walk to and fro helps you to feel happier and healthier.

 

Maybe you can live longer than expected.

    • what a nice tip, but balance diet for is hard to do so especially if we attend so many occasions and its hard as you said at the conclusion "To be honest, we had been living in the modern era, too much flexible access transportation, technology advancement, and fast food, had made us live too luxury." but thanks for this tips and I want to have a long life too many I'll try to do it.

    • I agree that healthy lifestyle will be the best thing if we wanted to live longer.I am not sure if people can live the way old people do in the old days.The modern lifestyle is somewhat different during the time of the elders.I do think my grandma will live longer at the age of 98.

      For some reason, I always asked her what's the secret.She just uttered to live a simple lifestyle.I always checked what's really her secret.It was really evident she eats a well-balanced diet. I am also wondering if I can live longer than my granny.

    • Discipline is a must also if we want to live longer.

      Those tips given are true. It is nice to live with it and make it as our lifestyle.
      Yes, we can say its hard to change our lifestyle, but when it means good things for our body, then we'll go with it.

      But, Oh! It's really hard to change my diet. hehe I love to eat checheria for snacks.
